BC Health Coalition Steering Committee – Steering Committee Summary 

 

Steering Committee Membership 

The Steering Committee shall be comprised of an equal number of union/labour organizational members and community organizational members.  There shall be no more than a total of 14 Steering Committee members. 

 

BC Health Coalition Regular (voting) Membership 

Regular Membership is open to all organizations who support the mission and values of the BC Health Coalition (see membership form), the principles of the Canada Health Act, oppose the privatization of health care, and support the principles of the Canadian Health Coalition’s Call to Care Statement (see membership form). Regular Members must have its authorized representative sign the application form, receive membership approval by the Steering Committee and have paid their annual membership fees. 

 

Steering Committee’s Role and Term 

The Steering Committee will work toward building a province-wide movement in favour of public health care and will set the work plan for the BC Health Coalition, in conjunction with the members at meetings of the membership.  Between meetings of the membership the Steering Committee will be free to set the agenda to respond to events/issues as they arise. 

The length of term for Steering Committee membership is until the end of the following AGM.  

At the AGM, members of the Community Caucus shall select from among their number the organizations that will be represented on the Steering Committee (equal to the number of labour organizations). Both the Community Caucus and the Labour Caucus shall choose their respective Co-Chair at the AGM. Steering Committee representatives can serve for more than one term.  

 

Steering Committee Expectations 

Steering Committee members are expected to attend Steering Committee meetings. Attendance can be in person (in Vancouver), or by phone. There are generally about 10 Steering Committee meetings a year. 

Steering Committee members are expected to participate in at least one organizational committee (finance, personnel, strategic planning etc.) or one campaign working group (private clinics, seniors, election etc.)
