Join the call to demand better care for BC seniors

Over the past two decades seniors care has declined significantly.

Between 2008 and 2017, the number of publicly subsidized long-term care beds declined by 17 per cent. This is part of a broader trend over the past two decades of declining funding for publicly-funded services in long-term care facilities and an increase in for-profit delivery. Instead of dedicated public funds to providing care for seniors, private for-profit operators are lining their pockets.

Meanwhile, access to publicly funded home support has consistently declined in BC since 2001. Despite their preference to age in place, many seniors can’t afford to. This means moving to long term care facilities sooner than they prefer. In other provinces, home support for seniors is provided by the government and costs little if nothing.

Seniors in British Columbia deserve a higher standard of care that is affordable, accessible and part of the public system.
