Lunch N' Learn: Vision for BC Drug Policy

Watch the recording

In this fourth session of Visions and Solutions, a BC Health Coalition Lunch N’ Learn series, we learn about the evidence-based drug policies needed to end the unregulated drug crisis.

Toxic drugs kill an average of 7 British Columbians each day. Eight years into this public health emergency, we see dramatically diverging ideas about how to stop these deaths in public discourse. Which of these ideas are based in evidence? And which are based on fear and stigma?

For this conversation, we welcome Shane Calder from the Canadian Drug Policy Coalition who will share the current context of drug policy in BC and dive into four recommendations for reform: drug regulation, decriminalization, addressing substanstive equity, and detox, recovery, and treatment.

To End a Crisis: A Vision for BC Drug Policy, is a policy platform and call to action that was developed by a provincial working group of civil society organizations and people who use drugs. It provides a clear path forward – one beyond the unregulated drug crisis that is now the direct cause of thousands of fatalities every year.
