Job type: Temporary full-time parental leave coverage at 30hrs/week
Duration: 12 month leave coverage contract 

Compensation: $46.22/hour plus extended benefits benefits (including Paramedical coverage) and RRSP contributions as set out in a collective agreement 

Start Date: Dec. 1st or Jan. 1st based on the preference of the candidate
Location: Ability to work from home and remotely anywhere in British Columbia or in the Vancouver office

 

Position overview:

The Lead Organizer works hand-in-hand with other BCHC staff and a passionate community of public health care advocates across the province to help develop skilled community leaders able to strengthen and defend public health care. From advocating for better health care at the community level to working with elected officials on policy change, the Lead Organizer position plays a vital and exciting role.

The Lead Organizer is primarily responsible for:

Member Development and Outreach

  • Increase the number of supporters, members, and overall engagement of the public in the campaigns of BCHC 
  • Identify, recruit and support local leaders on coalition campaigns 
  • Maintain institutional relationships and form new connections with partner organizations/stakeholders 
  • Identify create opportunities for members to deepen engagement in BC Health Coalition work

Action Planning and Organizing

  • Develop and implement a organizing strategy through education, base-building, and leadership development activities 
  • Build up the collective power of the Coalition by bringing members together through Regional and General Meetings, Project Teams, and incorporating their voices into the work
  • Plan and execute strategic actions that can raise awareness and influence decision makers 
  • Develop organizing materials and resources that provide guidance and support on how to take action
  • Provide training and capacity building opportunities in order to support the skills development of the Coalition
  • Organize events and activities in communities, such as public forums, press conferences, etc., which occasionally includes traveling outside the Lower Mainland 
  • Support membership communications including emails and social media presence to engage with members and the public on health care
  • Support in the maintenance and use Nationbuilder database and websites 

 

Qualifications:

  • A demonstrated passion for public health care, social services, and community organizing 
  • Experience working as a community organizer 
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills; proven experience with all forms of member and campaign communication 
  • Experience in a campaign setting (political or non-profit) 
  • Experience/awareness and critical analysis of the public health care system and/or issues related to social determinants of health 
  • Self-directed, self-motivated, and ready to take initiative in identifying gaps and finding and implementing solutions, involving other team members as needed 
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team 
  • Willingness to test ideas and step outside your comfort zone 
  • Well organized and comfortable working with online platforms such as Google docs, Facebook, Google Hangouts, shared calendars, etc. 
  • Experience using Customer Relationship Management (“CRM”) software, such as NationBuilder 

 

Additional Assets:

  • Policy analysis experience
  • Government relations experience
  • Social media experience (Instagram, Tik Tok and/or Facebook or Google Digital Ads)
