Fall 2026 Newsletter

It was a busy summer for health advocates.

In June, BC Health Coalition joined a coalition of seniors’ organisations to draw attention to the need for affordable home care.

Led by the Jewish Seniors’ Alliance of BC, the Health Care Needs Home Care campaign launched during Seniors Week and saw over 800 letters sent to MLAs in its first three weeks.

In July, we joined provincial Coalitions across the country to support the Alberta Friends of Medicare in their campaign against Bill 11 - two tier health, US-style health care introduced by the Alberta provincial government.

As premiers gathered at the Council of the Federation in Prince Edward Island, public health care advocates held rallies and town halls to showcase the importance of access to care based on need – not ability to pay.

And we kept up the fight on September 1 with rallies from coast to coast.

Municipal Elections

This fall, we encourage you to raise your voice with us as we prepare for municipal elections across the province.

Five years after the 2021 heat dome that resulted in 619 deaths, outreach workers and community advocates are working to make sure candidates see the link between affordable housing, climate, community support, and health.

Local governments have the power to make transportation and housing decisions that lower greenhouse gas emissions and ensure tenants have access to air conditioning.
