A Platform for Public Health Care
We need public health care improved, not dismantled.
This provincial election, the BC Health Coalition launched a platform that puts public health care and the people who rely on it first. We are using the platform to raise the bar on what commitments the provincial parties make.
Public health care delivers services based on need not the ability to pay. Not only is this more fair but it is the most effective way to optimize services and triage finite resources. This is why public sector innovations are the best way to heal our health care system.
These platform commitments are proven solutions that are well-documented by experts to address the core systemic issues facing our health care system. The full platform is comprehensive of the entire public health care system with 15 areas. We chose six priority solutions that would address the most pressing issues facing people across BC and heal the underlying strains on our system.
For-profit health care lobbies continue to drain our public health care system of resources, fracture services and oppose real solutions. It doesn’t have to be this way - this Provincial election we don’t have to choose between band-aid solutions that continue an unbearable status quo or quack ideas that make things worse. Together we can get better health care. This is why the BC Health Coalition is calling on all political parties to commit to six priority solutions. These are practical and vital steps that will improve access to primary health care, dramatically reduce wait times and improve the working conditions and stability of the health care workforce.
