The goals of the BC Health Coalition are to encourage activism on health care, raise public awareness, develop constituencies around our campaigns, build unity through campaigns, and solicit participation in BC Health Coalition activities. In order to achieve these goals we: - Speak out against user fees, privatization, corporatization, and other barriers to equal access to health care. We oppose legislation or agreements such as NAFTA, MAI and the GATS (General Agreement of Trades and Services) that may open our healthcare system up to increased privatization.
- Oppose any erosion of the Canada Health Act's principles of universality, comprehensiveness, portability, accessibility and public administration.
- Support health care reforms which truly enhance our public system and quality care including National Home Care and Pharmacare programs.
- Support using the skills of the entire health care team and the use of Community Health Centres including use of salaried physicians.
- Support BC residents' rights to information about their health care system and their health.
- Support individuals' rights to choose the health care therapies they require, including complementary therapies. We believe all needed services should be publicly funded.
The ongoing priorities of the BC Health Coalition are: - Educating and mobilizing the public in support of public health care.
- Campaigns that support seniors, home support and long-term care.
- Stopping the privatization of health care delivery (with P3s and private clinics)
- Advocating for public solutions to the challenges our health care system faces
