Campaign Goals (Home and Community Care) |
|
|
The BC Health Coalition is asking individuals, organizations and agencies to join in demanding that the provincial government prioritize the well-being of seniors, people with disabilities, and those with chronic conditions! Home and Community Care saves money and saves lives. This campaign is also a direct demand to the government to immediately:
- Establish an independent seniors' advocate who reports to the legislature.
- Expand home support services to:
- ensure 24/7 access
- operate as publicly funded, administered and delivered / not-for-profit
- enusre access according to need
- Fulfill all of the Ombudsperson's recommendations on residential care.
- Increase direct nursing care hours in residential care to 3.5 hours per resident per day.
- Conduct a transparent and comprehensive review of all seniors' services in B.C. that includes representation from all stakeholders.
- Create not-for-profit residential care beds immediately to meet the highest provincial rate of beds / 1,000 people aged 75 years and older. Adjust for people with disabilities, include palliative and primary care services, and ensure that these beds are exclusive of assisted living beds.
