Campaign Goals (Seniors' Care) Bookmark and Share

The BC Health Coalition is asking organizations and agencies to mobilize against the actions of the government of B.C. to  demand quality and accessible health care for seniors and people with disabilities!

This campaign is also a direct demand to the government to immediately:
  • Establish an independent seniors' advocate.
  • Create 5,000 new not-for-profit residential care beds; then assess needs and adjust to meet national average of beds / 1,000 people aged 65 years and older; also adjust for people with disabilities; ensure that these beds are exclusive of assisted living beds.
  • Expand home support services:  allocate $125 million now, 24/7 access; publicly run / not-for-profit; money goes to direct care / expand services (as recommended by the 2006 Premier's Council on Aging and Seniors' Issues).
  • Increase direct nursing care hours in residential care to 3.5 hours per resident per day.
