Campaign Goals (HS) Bookmark and Share

The BC Health Coalition’s Home Support Campaign is asking organizations and agencies to mobilize against the actions of the government of BC and the regional health authorities which are virtually destroying home support in the province.

On behalf of all British Columbians that endorse this campaign, this campaign is also a direct demand to the government and health authorities to immediately:

  • Halt further cutbacks and restore home support to 1994 service levels.
  • Fund home support as a universal program and eliminate user fees, stem privatization, and ensure a system that people can access according to need.
  • Overcome staff shortages by improving and standardizing training, implementing competitive wage scales for workers, and developing an active recruitment program for home workers.  This should include new workers from aboriginal and ethno-cultural communities to better reflect the population being served (as per Aging Well in BC - Premier's Council on Aging and Seniors' Issues - pg. 53)
  • Create an appeal board for people who want to dispute their home support assessment.  Appeal boards must include strong representation from people with disabilities and seniors.

Want to take action but not sure how?  Do you agree with our campaign goals? Start by endorsing the campaign, and join over fifty organizations and individuals throughout BC in calling for a stronger and fairer home support for our seniors and persons with disabilities.
