FRIENDS OF MEDICARE PETITION THE BRITISH COLUMBIAN LEGISLATURE

To the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, in Legislature Assembled: 

We, the undersigned residents of the Province of British Columbia, petition the Legislative Assembly:

We are the Friends of Medicare in British Columbia.

We recognize health and health care services as a critical part of the social and economic well-being of communities in British Columbia.

We are deeply concerned that the cuts made by the Liberal government continue to pave the way for futher privatization of health care services in B.C.

We are also concerned that the provincial government has used Conversation on Health as a platform to redefine the principles and narrow the application of the Canada Health Act in BC.

Therefore we urge the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia to recognize and affirm that public health care spending is sustainable, to reinstate funding for much needed health care services and programs in communities across B.C. and to ensure that private, for-profit health care is restricted to services not deemed medically necessary.
