In 2008 the BC Ombudsperson launched an investigation in response to widespread public concern about the state of seniors’ care in B.C. The first of two reports, released in 2009, outlined ten recommendations to improve care for seniors living in B.C.’s residential care facilities. The deadlines to fulfill the ten recommendations have passed and so far the province has only partially implemented four. The progress that has been made to date is promising but seniors in B.C. deserve better. This week a BCHC delegation presented the Health Minister Michael de Jong with the results of the report card : one “C” and two “D”s and outlined improvements that need to be made. The province has indicated that it is willing to improve its grades.
Now is the time to tell the BC government that you expect all of the Ombudsperson’s recommendations to be fulfilled and ensure that the province follows through for seniors. Act now. 1. Send a message to the province below.
2. Order copies of the report card here and distribute them in your community – each report card has a detachable postcard to mail a message to the province. Email
