HEALTH CARE P3S:
A POISON PILL FOR HEALTH CARE

Tell Premier Campbell how you feel about P3s in your community!

P3s (Public-Private Partnerships) are another term for an unpopular concept:  privatization.

In a typical P3 deal, for-profit corporations win a contract to finance, design, build, and own health care facilities and deliver some health care services.  Contracts often commit the government to lease the health care facility and some services from the private companies for a period of 30 years or more.

The B.C. government’s campaign of privatizing health care with P3s has the following side effects:

  • Increased debt
  • Higher fees
  • Poor services
  • Corporate control of health care facilities
  • Lack of access to information
  • Sweat shop labour
  • Reduced hygiene and standards

Instead of P3s, we should finance health projects with public money and make sure that health care is operated on a not-for-profit basis. This would be cheaper, more accountable, and offer higher quality health care to British Columbians.

Take Action now and write Premier Campbell to tell him that you want public (not P3) health facilities in your community!
